Two days? More like a lifetime!

So much has happened in the past two days that I'm not sure how I could ever get it all down.

After the last post I headed to Breakfast. There's so much selection I probably eating too much. The food kinda reminds me of Eric Neeve's food (except buffet style).

Wednesday it was perfectly foggy and rainy as was to be expected. Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day - perfect for the garden tour I went on (and for taking pictures but my camera battery wasn't charged - Grr >.< ). After a welcome from the Student Services staff, I went to the computer study (which I had spent half an hour running around the castle looking for with a group of students when we were trying to retrieve the laptops we'd ransomed) for an orientation that went way over my sleep-deprived head.

Then I had a Castle tour which was awesome. Those huge trees out front? - 500 years old. That dungeon? - Only one known to have had a toilet. Secret passages, underground tunnels of which no one knows the original purpose.

Then a garden tour with a perfectly British garden - thick accent, green hat, hooked nose, mutton chops, - great British humour. The gardens are ridiculous - butterfly garden, Shakespeare garden, Victorian garden which was a maze at one point with exotic fruit trees along the walls (for warmth at night).

There is a boy here who has a startling resemblance to Nick (though there are a lot of differences between them. It keeps surprising me - we were on the same flight and talked a lot. He's nice - everyone here is actually pretty awesome. Last night I ended up walking back from the pub with a girl who had had a sour look on her face all day and scared me. Turns out she's not mad or mean at all. She's having a really hard time adjusting and being apart from her boyfriend. I sympathized and we got to talking. We had a few really awesome conversations before we both left to check skype before we went to bed.

On the cellphone Kalyn gave me I've been finding radio stations to listen to (connects me to civilization). Right now I'm sitting in the hallway listening to The Writer by Ellie Goulding on 107.50 Sovereign FM (http://www.sovereignfm.com/). We're in a queue waiting for the art room to open (it's full of textbooks, shoes, blankets, etc that people have left behind them).

Before I entered this madness, I picked up a package from Brianne. It was so nice to have mail to look forward too! :D She's such a Saviour! Everything she sent me is going to come in handy - shampoo, popcorn, delicious chocolate-mint treats, laundry detergent, tissues, etc. I'm SO grateful.

Today we were forced to sit through hours of presentations without breaks in the Ballroom. Fortunately it was useful/interesting information. Sandy told us to get ahold of him if we want to explore some of the locked up areas of the castle, the main director here (Master of the School) seems pretty chill - we'll get to know him personally, British police officers do not generally carry guns (and pepperspray is outlawed), buses will leave us behind if we are not at the meeting place on time (duh), the librarian - Eugene - is quite the character.

Then I had a couple of conversations with some of the staff - one in particular who shares many interests with me. I also have gotten closer with my roommate, she seems pretty cool - she reminds me a bit of Rose. I've really enjoyed the few conversations we've had.

I met a group of upper year girls from Japan who were really nice - I've learned the names of three of them. I've also met a first year from China who is really sweet. My roommate is originally from the Middle East. Strangely, out of all the people I've seen at the school I haven't seen a single black person. It's odd.

All off my courses sound really interesting but so do the others - I plan to talk to different professors and sit in on classes in the first week in order to assess and discover if I want to make any changes to my schedule.

I need to tour the acres I have at my disposal before winter hits. That is my current goal.

Wishing you all could be here with me!

Love,

Cara (^_^)/

  4. While it may seem nice at first, living with someone who is like me can only lead to despair. Ask Shane. One can only hope that she reminds you of me in all my good ways (ha!) and not so much in the bad ways.
